Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she moved to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma knew she was going to become an actress and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned performing and singing. Her performances had been in a variety of Stagecoach and school productions by the time she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theater teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been selected for the parts. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. The most successful film of 2001 The film broke records for its opening day revenue as well as opening weekend takings. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, particularly the younger actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma's performance was recognized and later won awards in the film.
